The Malan Family
A Flower Girl Who Stopped Blooming
She was eight years old, sitting in the backseat of the car, tears streaming down her face. Dani did not want to walk through that school gate. Before school, she was light — she loved the sea, being outside, sports, and other children felt that light and wanted to play with her. But somewhere between the classroom walls, that passionate, loving little girl stopped talking. She refused sports. She sat alone on the bench at recess.
Her mother Juanita sat in the driver's seat, emotionally burnt out. Afraid. Tired. Just like Dani.
"Start the car," Jack said. "Take our daughter home. Tomorrow, you can homeschool her." The best decision he ever made for our family.
They started like most scared parents do — bringing the classroom home. A professional curriculum. Hours of confusion. Then they heard a term that changed everything: unschool your child first.
History came alive at the dining room table. The kitchen became a laboratory. The walls were covered in timelines. And Juanita discovered she wasn't their teacher — she was a cheerleader. Learning beside them. Growing beside them.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

The Flower Girl Bloomed — and So Did Her Family
Dani Returns to School in China
Now brave enough to choose it on her own terms, Dani enrolled in an international school, completed her IGCSE, and participated in every sport available.
13.6 Seconds of Bravery
At an international track and field event, Dani won gold in the 100m. Standing on the rostrum, she was thankful not just for the race, but for everything that led to that moment.
Simone Earns Her Degree
Dani's older sister Simone completed her bachelor's degree in Education online, and now teaches in China — strong-minded, independent, and brave.
The Family Becomes Educators
For Jack and Juanita, homeschooling became more than a decision. It became who they are. Today, Juanita teaches first grade — and sees Dani's face in every uncertain child who walks through her door.
